Focus on Heroes: Beyond the Uniform

" Heroes come in many shapes and sizes. Very near and dear to my heart are "first responders"; fire, police, paramedic and military personnel. Deciding on a career that puts you in harm's way everyday to protect and save others, is an admirable job in itself.
But their stories do not end there, and in some cases, it is just the beginning. They go beyond the uniform and continue to serve their communities in their off-duty hours. Their stories are as different as the reasons why they do this. Be it an experience, a tragedy, or an inner calling, these men and women go beyond the masses and are shining examples of the human spirit.
These portraits are my way of showing them how grateful I am for their efforts, and a way to share their inspiration and to call attention to their causes. To my heroes, I often hear people say: "One person can not make a difference", well you are all living proof of that fallacy."
