We are pleased to announce the creation of the Myles Burke Memorial Scholarship in honour of the late Chief Myles Burke.  Chief Burke passed away of natural causes on April 9, 2011 at the age of 49.

The scholarship will be valued at $2,500.00 and is in addition to our national scholarship program.

Eligible recipients must:
  • be a resident of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality
  • be attending the Atlantic Police Academy

Chief Burke had a passion and enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development, in addition to a strong belief in the importance of both physical and emotional well-being to deal with the stress associated to a career in law enforcement. “Chief Burke valued and understood the cause behind the Tema Conter Memorial Trust,” said Cape Breton Regional Police Chief Peter McIsaac, “and this scholarship is a fitting tribute to the qualities he advocated throughout his career.”

This announcement was made May 26, 2011 at the Tema Conter Memorial Trust Tribute Dinner held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Three hundred people were in attendance and $5,000.00 was raised during this inaugural event.
